In the beginning, when we first started doing m-bags back in the bookrelay days, many of the m-bag organizers would come up short when sending out because many people would forget or conveniently overlook to enclose the $1. And thus the concern about people overpaying under the new rates was thought to be invalid. No way is an m-bag organizer ever coming to get away without coming up out-of-pocket, it was thought! :nono:

Know however that in the case of the m-bag which was just sent and received by Amber under these new rates, and despite the fact that Amber had requested a number of BookMooch books which didn't have any $ to go along with (she just mooched them to my US address and paid only the 1 point), I was not short anything when all was said and done. The total weight of her Austria m-bag was 23 lb 4.8 oz for a grand total of $68.40. (And I had $72 collected in the envelope, $74 really counting the $2 I'd inadvertently left in one of the books.)

I have to say that when I saw how much the postage cost when I picked up the Mbag I nearly fainted!!! However when I saw the list with all the $$$ that had been paid I realised it must have come up even.

So I guess people should see that Mbags can work even with the new rates!

I must have read this wrong. Did you just say that we paid for Amber's mooched books also? Because if so, shouldn't she be paying for those

Not you, per se. But I had a few people, like KathyB for instance who's doing Amber's m-bag now, who sent me like 5 or 6 different shipments of books for Amber, and each time another $2 or $3, one time a $5. I didn't track Kathy's books separately, but I should've, because if all those books (I think at least 10 were from her) were all in one group together, and she went by poundage, she would've paid a lot less. (So I told Amber to mail the extra $2 I had left in one of the books back to her next time she mails something to Kathy.)

Also, other people like Lemonitsa threw in a $5 and told me to keep the change. So all those little overages made up for the mooched books as well, which were supposed to come out of my pocket. (And then Amber was gonna pay me back.)

ETA - Also, other than the mooched books, everyone else included $. And that was something I heard was always a problem with previous m-baggers. That they'd only collect from like 65% to 75% of the people.

ETA2 - Just counted from the backpack list, since now I was way curious too. Kathy sent a total of 14 books, over 10 different shipments to me, and a total of $31. I did have the info to figure that out. What I didn't have is the weights for each book of hers that she sent. But you can see why I encouraged KathyB to do Amber's next m-bag.
