I listened to a little bit of Abandon yesterday. No reading, but my granddaughter and I made Pillsbury Sugar Cookie balls, dipped them in vanilla candy coating and decorated with sprinkles. She comes armed with new baking recipes almost every time she comes. I'll only get her 2 more weeks. Schools are supposed to begin the 18th of August and my son-in-law will begin working from home full time so the children can be online students. I'm so very glad that more and more businesses are allowing this during the pandemic.
On a brighter note, I just finished listening to "Doctor Who Missy #1: The Lumiat"

Oh no - a freezer failure! That sucks. I feel lucky here so far - every time we have a thunderstorm here, our power goes out and fortunately, it usually comes back on within 30 minutes. They need to do work on the infrastructure ... we should probably have a generator. Sigh.KathyB wrote: ↑Jul 30, 2020I went out to my freezer (in the garage) and discovered it at stopped working and all my meat, vegetables, etc. were thawed and ruined. There was quite a bit too because I had stocked up during the quarantine. Certain items were hard to find, so when I found them, I bought extra. My husband and I cleaned it out and he checked the plug and temperature settings. We turned it back on and will let it sit for a day or so to see if it works. If not, then I guess we are buying a new freezer.
I've been pretty slow, but did finally finish Tarnished City today! I'll probably start on Mem next, and still listening to A Song of Wraiths and Ruin, but I fell down the Spotify Rabbit hole today.

Finished The Essential Charlotte - it was okay; the last third of the book was the most interesting.

So now on to something a little more suspenseful. A classic I've never read, Murder Must Advertise by Dorothy Sayers.

Ok, I've been totally slacking off the read-a-thon but I have been having a ton of fun with the new kitty. Her name is now Goose.

Woah, and I won a prize?! This day just gets better and better.
Dorothy Sayers is one of my favorites from a long time ago. Back when I first started reading mysteries.dancing-dog wrote: ↑Jul 31, 2020Finished The Essential Charlotte - it was okay; the last third of the book was the most interesting.

Kathy, so sorry to hear this. That's such a blow, especially with all the food in it! Let me know what happened.KathyB wrote: ↑Jul 30, 2020I went out to my freezer (in the garage) and discovered it at stopped working and all my meat, vegetables, etc. were thawed and ruined. fwiw I think mine has failed, (It won't get cold..and I'm not sure how to check the freon on it) But I was fortunate that it was working, then I cleaned it out (I do that at least once a year to keep things timely) and then it wouldn't get cold when I turned it on. I miss it..
How did you like the missy tale?
