We’re using them in the IV room so that the much more effective surgical masks can be saved for our front line. There are a lot of other safeguards in place in the IV room to keep products clean and sterile, so the mask’s main utility there is to reduce exposed skin (we shed a lot of skin cells and don’t want those floating around the clean room) and to prevent us touching our faces and contaminating our gloves.

We also hand them out to patients and visitors (the few visitors still allowed in) because yes, they’re better than nothing. They can help reduce the spread of droplets from coughing and sneezing and (most important given the number of asymptomatic folks spreading this thing) talking. They help prevent you touching your face with dirty hands when out in public, and I would argue they’re a visible reminder to others to keep their distance.

Each person in my department has been issued one actual medical mask for when we venture into patient care areas, but because of the shortage we have to store that in a paper bag and reuse it. It has to stay at the hospital, so my caticorn mask is in case I have to go shopping. (Hasn’t happened yet - my husband won’t let me do the shopping right now. I made him a mask with planets. 🪐 🌏 )

I finished Sugar and Iced. It was much more enjoyable than I thought it would be from the start. But it was because this was the sixth book in the series.  Elengil and I have about 42 minutes  left in Crossroads of Twilight by Robert Jordan.

I'm still reading  and am considering picking up

I finished listening to "Undeath & Taxes" today and started Molly Harper's newest "Always Be My Banshee".  Steve and I went to the local park today. I had my iPad with me so I read some of "Sandman #7: Brief Lives" while we sat at a picnic table enjoying the nice weather and fresh air.  Still reading "Lights Camera Puzzles" at night before I go to sleep.

I watched part of "Iron Man #1" while exercising this morning. I'll finish it up either this evening or tomorrow while exercising :). I didn't work on my photo scanning project today, but got some World of Warcraft played.

Like Zosime's hospital, mine also does not have cases. Right now we are sending our positive cases to our sister hospital. So they do stay at our facility until their tests come back and then are transferred.  We too have stopped all elective surgeries. All our anesthesiologists are being utilized to help with intubation of patients who need vents.  Our ER is also very slow right now.  The community has been so supportive. We are also planning and changing plans constantly. Right now, all our staff is being redeployed for other jobs if they are not needed in their normal capacity.  We have closed most entrances and have someone screening everyone who enters. Visitors are limited to "essential" and very few are allowed. A parent with a minor or a care giver with a patient who cannot speak or make decisions on their own.  It is a scary time.
I finished an audio on the ride home. Big Red Tequila by Rick Riordan
I'm also reading Miracle Creek by Angie Kim  pg. 150

Update for Tues. Apr. 07, Day 2

My list of books:
(Title, Series, Author, Format, Started At, At Now)

Digital Fortress by Dan Brown, paper, 67%, 100% Finished on Day 1
Pale Demon (The Hollows #9) by Kim Harrison, audio, 22%, 22%
Fire Ice (NUMA Files #3) by Clive Cussler, ebook (library copy), 0%, 23%
- - > The Awakening (Darkest Powers #2) by Kelley Armstrong, paper, 0%, 33%

Picked #2 in Kelley Armstrong’s YA series to read. I bought all the books as they were released but only read the first one last September. I don’t know why I waited so long. I’m glad I got back to it, she is one of my fave authors. This book, and the Dan Brown, are also for the monthly challenge on the Hooked on Books group at Goodreads.
