I outlined three ways to go about this differently if we were ever to find ourselves in the same circumstances again in an above post. It was pointed out by a few people that the first option (bringing the decision to the community) couldn't be done in this case. But the other two could.CdnBlueRose wrote: This discussion started because some members said they wanted to discuss things - and that was the original point. However, I've not seen much discussion happening - I've seen complaining. I'm quite open to saying I'd do things differently in future and I'm open to hearing suggestions. I believe the other mods would feel the same way, but I'm only speaking for myself here.
This may have been the case, although some if not all of the mods came from the old site. However the make-up of the mod team seems to me to be quite balancedAceofHearts wrote: Let's face it Sand appointed 'her' friends to be mods. There is a clique and that is the way it is. and although I didn't necessarily like that the decisions weren't made more publicly I don't think any one else would have made very different decisions. I personally haven't ever felt the mods were a clique, I've always thought we were all a clique

ETA I do understand that feelings have been hurt, but I think we are in danger of flogging a dead horse

I never felt it was a clique. I will comment that I hate reading in certain threads that extra help might be useful for those threads that need a lot of updating, and when I PMd a couple mods to volunteer my services, I never got a response.Sunlightbub wrote:This may have been the case, although some if not all of the mods came from the old site. I was a mod before, and then Sand made me one here. But then when I was planning to be away from the site for a while, Sand took the mod duties away from me because she didn't want a mod to be MIA. Of course, when she went MIA and remained a mod, I guess it was okay.
Anyway, I came back, but my mod duties didn't.That's okay, though, 'cause after all this, I don't think I want 'em!

I had to go back and read again to see if I missed responding to something. And, believe me Lauren, I TOTALLY appreciate you trying to offer suggestions!HoserLauren wrote: Yes I agree that you shouldn't bring a complaint forward unless you have a solution to go with it.
I hope I haven't gone against my beliefs! I was just wondering what got us to this point (in terms of action, not the results of those actions). I may not agree with how this all happened, but I wasn't privy to what happened to be able to evaluate if I would do the same thing in the mods' place. And as you said Rosie, it can't be undone.
For the future, it would be nice if we could try to make decisions like this public. Failing the ability to do that, some warning would be nice. Even failing that, it would be nice if a discussion thread could be put up right away rather than waiting for 1/2 a week to allow people to voice their concerns.
I appreciate the answer Rosie.![]()
ETA: Rosie made the point that not all websites put forth the rules for members to agree on. However, I like to think of our community as not like "other websites" which is why I had an issue with this!
I am not speaking on behalf of all the mods here, I'm voicing my own personal opinion, and this is the way I would "vote" on things in discussions with the mods, I hope that is understood here...
In future, I will definitely try to give members input on decisions whenever possible. That said, sometimes issues of an urgent nature arise and simply have to be dealt with - time doesn't allow for extensive discussion. I agree that forewarning is also an excellent suggestion, and would also make every effort to do that in future to whatever extent it's possible. Obviously, if something happens very quickly, there may not be time for forewarning either. And on the third point, of a discussion thread.... this is the one I don't totally understand.... the mods aren't the only ones who can open discussion threads - anyone who wants to discuss any issue can open a thread and do so - so really anyone with a concern could have opened a thread right away and is welcome to do so in future as far as I'm concerned. We didn't open a discussion thread immediately in this case because we really did not anticipate there being such a reaction and any need to "officially" open a thread.....
I also want to say here and now that I am NOT trying to put anyone down, be condescending, or anything other negative thing. I am trying very hard to mediate some solutions to the issues we're having. I know that when people get emotional they can read things into what is being said, things that simply are not intended or implied in any way - and I really want to appeal to everyone to try to think of positive discussion that will get us all on the right track and not be jumping on each other....... I did make a post a couple of days ago that was somewhat emotional because it was a gut reaction after reading some posts that were generally very nasty toward the mods - I took that personally. By the next day, I was realizing that I can't take what one or two people have said and generalize it to the feelings of everyone here. I know there are people here who appreciate me as a mod, people who come to me for advice on different issues, and who say I've helped them - and that's why I have continued and will continue to be a moderator here.
I would genuinely like to see things resolved here. In order to do that, we all have to realize that we can't work together if we are bashing each other over the heads with our words. I'll go back through the thread and see if there are any specific questions that haven't been addressed. And if people have further suggestions, let's discuss them - calmly and like friends who are working something out.
I totally agree! That's why I riskedCdnBlueRose wrote: I would genuinely like to see things resolved here. In order to do that, we all have to realize that we can't work together if we are bashing each other over the heads with our words.
because I really believed we needed to get SOMETHING out of this. Regarding starting a new thread - for some reason I just associated everything being locked with the mods not wanting us to start a thread about it.
Though thinking back on it, yes, I could have started a thread. I don't know why I didn't.
Anyways, I now feel like we've gained something from this discussion so I'm feeling better about everything
Not that this is about me

I'm still trying to read back through everything to see if I missed anything, but my eyes are bothering me right now so it's slow going..... I just popped back to the end to see if we had anything new.... and I'm glad I did because your smiley made me laugh out loud and I needed that - thanks Lauren!
