AceofHearts wrote: Let's face it Sand appointed 'her' friends to be mods. There is a clique and that is the way it is.
I really think a statement like that should be prefaced by "I think" because it's certainly not an absolute truth. At the risk of setting off a whole new meltdown, I'll put it out there and say that I'm not Sand's friend, nor have I ever considered myself her friend, though I was friendly towards her at times. I volunteered to be a mod because I liked it here and I was always around anyway. Full stop. The mod team isn't a clique - we argue just as much as anyone else here. For someone who claims to be non-confrontational, Ace, you certainly have a knack for posting inflammatory things then walking away. Maybe that's what you mean by non-confrontational.

And for the record, because Rosie alluded to the speed with which the rules were developed, I was the one who insisted that if we were going to hold someone accountable for breaking the rules of this site, we had to 1) have rules and 2) make those rules public. In order to resolve the situation we had, that meant the rules had to be developed and posted, literally, as soon as possible, because as I said, the resolution hinged on that. There was no time to put the whole thing to a discussion. Look how long it took to pick a name for us, we'd still be discussing now. I truly believe that if there was time we would have brought it to you guys - but I don't feel badly for handling it the way we did, with the information we had.

I had decided to let sleeping dogs lie and keep my opinions to myself and just stay away from BOb until I was 'over it'. Buuuut, that's just not in my nature, so I came by this morning and read the new posts in this discussion and out the window goes my good intentions. If I'm ever going to be able to come back to this site and feel like I'm still a valued member and a part of things, I've got to be able to express my opinions.

Thanks Rosie for your responses to previous questions and posts.

Speaking only for myself, I'd like to say that up until the "4 things you need to know about BookObsessed" thread and the subsequent discussion I haven't had a problem with the moderators or the job they were doing. Again, I thought their job was 'technical' and not to "police" our behavior or the site. This was what I thought and now I know I was mistaken.

As I'm not a moderator and have no idea what incident(s) led to the URGENT need for a set of rules, I have been vocal in my displeasure and disagreement with the manner in which these rules were presented to the members. Since the moderator(s) have said that this/these incident(s) will not be discussed publicly, I'll never know. I trust that it truly was urgent.

My suggestion for future Guidelines, Expectations, Procedures, or Rules would be a time limited poll. I think it should be easy enough to set up a poll with the proposed rule, guideline, procedure, or expectation stated along with an agree, disagree or don't care option to vote. Discussion could be in that thread with a time limit on the poll. 3 days, 5 days, 1 week. I think that those who are active and give a damn probably visit at least once a week. If this seems unreasonable or undo-able, please let me know here.

My last comment is to fantasy221 and I'm commenting publicly because I think it's important for this to be an open discussion. Fantasy221, I think you've taken this personally. Your comment about Ace's 'knack for posting inflammatory things and then walking away' seemed personal to me. As a moderator I think you should be able to step back and separate your personal feelings from what's good for the whole in the same manner that a supervisor must separate his/her personal feelings from a persons work performance. If you or any other moderator can't do this then I would rather you/they step down as a moderator. Being a moderator as it has now been defined is certainly difficult. I wouldn't do it, because I know that I have a hard time separating my personal feelings from all the goings on.

Since this post is probably going to be considered inflammatory or "antagonizing behavior" I've probably just earned my first strike. If I have, (or if I haven't) I'm going to request that the moderators post that in this discussion so that others will have some idea as to what "antagonizing behavior" is, 'cause I still don't have a great picture of what that means.

It seems doable to me.

No it's isn't inflammatory or "antagonizing behavior". You are stating your opinion. Not making a statement of fact. And yes as Rosie as already suggested we are going to have to have a better definition of harassment.

Meshe, my post was indeed a personal response. I agree that mods should be able to step back and not take things personally. But just because any of us are mods doesn't mean we're not allowed to have feelings, or to express those feelings. I didn't take anything personally in Ace's post other than the part I quoted and responded to. Furthermore, I wasn't responding to Ace as a mod, I was responding to her as a person. Most of the posting I do around here is as a person, not a mod. When I'm acting as a mod, I try to be very clear about it. I think others can attest to that. I'm sorry you couldn't tell the difference.

Ummm... kay. So yeah.

Let me just say that I love everyone here. Yep. That's all.

Ok. Now I have a suggestion.

Could we get everything in one place? One of the problems I've been having is that I feel like information is set in random places. There are even links to links...

Maybe there is some place, but I have yet to find it. If there is I'm sorry for this post, please let me know where it is.

Otherwise, I feel if we are going to keep these guidelines, then could we have all of this information in one user-friendly place? Somewhere that we can point new people to and they can grasp it easily. I'm not just talking about the rules though... I mean everything:

Hey, I think that's a GREAT idea, Turtle!! I've been looking at all the pinned posts lately and thinking it's too much - to pin ONE post with all the various links is an excellent idea! Thanks! This is one of those things that you read and think DUH! Why didn't I think of that? So I appreciate you suggesting it!

P.S. Might not happen immediately cause I'm working on something else and I'm not sure who else is around right now that might be able to do this, but I think we can make this happen soon.
