OK -- I've got a small situation. On my blog, I publish the list of books which I have read through the year and I log those books at Goodreads. But now I've read a book that I don't want to tell anyone about.

Without going into any detail, just consider that it might have been erotic like Fifty Shades of Grey or political like How Obama Betrayed America....And No One Is Holding Him Accountable. It's just a book that I don't want my business associates or customers to know about.

I don't know why it bothers me to leave it off the list and not include it at Goodreads, but for some reason it seems a little bit dishonest. Does anyone else ever feel that way?

There have been a couple of books that I also read and didn't add anywhere. So I totally understand you.

I don't feel it is dishonest. Actually I think it is brave...everyone seems to post everything somewhere....FB, Twitter, etc so I find it is a great thing in this day and age to not share something....if that makes sense...

I've done that with a couple of erotica books. Certain family members are very opinionated and judgemental so that's my way of not having to explain why I read something they considered 'perverted'. I've been through it before and it's not worth the effort of defending my choice.

I don't think it's dishonest, mostly because I'm not inflating my list of books read. Also, sometimes a choice needs to be kept private.

For awhile I was keeping a paper notebook with my books read list the few times I had something I didn't want to share online I put it in that list but not the online ones.

Nowadays I don't really differentiate between them and add everything to my goodreads list. I have added a did not finish shelf last year as I had a few books I just couldn't finish after starting.

I always add it to my GoodReads list. I don't publish the book on FaceBook if I don't want some judgemental people seeing that I read something that they'd think was inappropriate.

The way I look at, everyone has personal feelings or opinions that they choose not to share for one reason or another so why should it be different with the books. Just because you read it doesn't mean you have to share with the world. Some things are just meant to be private.

Don't feel bad... My sister doesn't list all the books she's read on goodreads either because of her job!! She doesn't want everyone to know she read what she terms "Vampire Porn" ie. Black Dagger Brotherhood books...
