Hi all,
While trying to catch up on all things book related, I went to the FR website and it's gone!! Anyone know what happened to the site? The domain name is now parked at GoDaddy.com. The last few times I logged into it, I would receive a warning that its security signature or whatever the heck that was, wasn't up to date. I just clicked through and wen t on about my business. I guess I should have stayed more alert!! LOL

Thanks in advance for any info...

I was wondering the same thing last week when I went to try to remove some stuff from my wishlist there. I had been so behind on updating my wishlists and marking stuff as received (the little that I've received since I moved) that I fiugred I must've missed some kind of on-site announcement myself. Though why they wouldn't have sent an email to registered members like us, I don't know.

To make a long story short, I noticed too that they've gone and have no idea why, and didn't receive any info from them via email as to anything going on. If anyone here knows what happened, and if they'll eventually be back or not, would love to hear the news too. :)

https://www.bigtent.com/groups/bookswappers

This group is intended as a forum area for former FrugalReader.com members for auctions, games, discussions, etc. In addition to the forum area, this group also offers a classified area. I've created sub-catagories under Books that match the main catagories at FR. So, people could use this for book trading, if you want, but with no credit system. The classified area is automatically integrated with Amazon, so if you do a search, if nothing is available in the classified area, it will show a link to the item on Amazon.

This is what I saw on yahoo answers:
think it shut down. All the members home page said premium membership will expire 12/31/09. It also said to renew before it expired. Customer service stopped responding months ago. Many of the members tried to contact the founder of the group. He got upset because one of the members contacted him personally via personal email. He told them to contact them only through FR. But he only ignored everyone. Never responded to anyone nor warned of the site going down. I sure hope no one paid for their membership renew. Lots of people had a lot of credits and lost a lot and probably will never see them again. They were discussing all of this in the forums. I was following them for a couuple of months. The members got together and came up with this site in case FR did go down. https://www.bigtent.com/groups/bookswappers Not sure how it works. But you might join and talk to the members and get more information about FR. I personally enjoy Paperbackswap.com. Better variety of books and personal tour guide to help out when in need.
Good Luck to you all and Happy New Year!

Twiggy, thanks so much for the info and the website! The last time I had been on F/R was right after Christmas when I got back home from my grandmother's. I had to post a message on one of the forums, and noticed some talk about members going to some other website, but I really didn't pay any attention. Bad me! If I had, I'd probably know now what happened! :giggle: Oh well. I hardly ever got any books through them. There were a lot of sweet people there. Nice to know they planned ahead and got them another home.

Is anyone really upset that FR went away? The CS was awful and the system was mediocre at best and lacked functionality. Come on over to a real trading site, Paperbackswap. Guarantee you will wonder why you ever used FR.
