I didn't yet see a thread here for Goodreads.com. I'm not sure if it'd really belong in this category anyway, but since Shelfari is here, and in my own records I tend to group it similarly to the trading sites, I figured it belonged here just as well as anywhere else.

If you haven't yet checked out Goodreads for cataloging your books, you definitely should. Yes, I love me my LibraryThing as well, and would never stop using that. But I find myself keeping track in both places as I read and review stuff as I feel they complement each other nicely. Goodreads has some really cool RSS stuff. And though you can set up RSS feeds (news reader) for numerous pages at LT as well, it wasn't until Goodreads that I actually began using it full force.

So what does Goodreads offer exactly? Well, you can keep track of all the books you've read, ones that are on your TBR pile, and ones on your wishlist. As you read a book, you can paste your review here, give it a star rating, and then automatically all the people on your friends list will either see it in their RSS feed or their front page next time they visit the site. Also if you go to the page for a particular book, you'll see which of your friends have read it, as well as what they thought of it.

So check it out if you haven't already!! http://www.goodreads.com !!!

hehe ulterior motive. The main reason I wanted to start a thread for goodreads is so that I could bring this post to your attention:

I know there's a few of us that use the feature of Goodreads that allows you to update your Facebook status and or send a Twitter tweet. I like this feature and use it myself, however I'd like to see it include the author name as well, instead of just the book title.

As you can see if you visit the thread, the primary developer (Otis) and another of the lead architects have already responded (one for and one against), so if you'd like to see author names added to your facebook status updates and twitter tweets from Goodreads, then make your voice heard in that thread. :)

I never liked Library Thing but I love GoodReads. :D I don't care either way if the author's name shows up in my twitter status but since there is books with the same name then I guess it would be more helpful.

I love Goodreads and have actually mostly stopped using Library Thing because I just like Goodreads so much better. I don't really use Twitter or Facebook much though, so don't really have a comment on the apps for those...

GoodReads also gives away free books via their First Reads program. Check it out here:

thanks to therubycanary for reminding me of this.

I love the updates of what my GoodReads friends are adding to their shelves; that's how I add a lot to my own. And their friend system is pretty cool, too. I've found lots of friends there.

I think it's my favorite of the three sites, and I still know I'm under utilizing it -- like the Good Reads Author Program.

I moved all my owned books & wishlists to GoodReads. There is a lot of flexibility there (thank goodness, for a while I had 4 different Blogger Blogs to keep up with all my stuff). I like that I can make my own shelves and organize them the way I want.

Check out the new "stats" feature at Goodreads. You can see how many pages you've read per year (knowing that these numbers are sometimes wrong since they're based on the page counts in GR, which are screwy for audios, ebooks, and sometimes for regular books as well), how many books, what rankings you gave to books over a year...

Pretty fun.

Here's mine: http://www.goodreads.com/review/stats/620387-joanna

(You can get to it from someone's/your profile page)

I feel like such a toddler at Goodreads! MsJo, thanks for showing me that stats page - highly motivating for a geek like me who used to calculate my pages read per year by hand (of course that was pre-babies!!)

Could someone please explain why the wishlist there is so great? I have found it very cumbersome to add books so far. Perhaps I am doing something wrong or in a clunky way? If I am drooling over a friend's list, is there a way for me to click on a book and add it to my wishlist directly? Thanks in advance! I'm sure as I try to plod through there some more, I'll come up with more questions... ;)
