D. R. Boisse suggests ways to overcome limiting unconscious thoughts and behaviors in Free Mind, Free Body: How to Use Your Mind to Achieve More Than Ever Before! Utilizing his expertise and training in fitness, Boisse creates a plan for expanding our "reality bubbles" and accomplishing goals, with the message that the possible realities for each person are infinite.

According to Free Mind, Free Body, the key to self-actualization is mainly attention to inner dialogue. Recognizing limiting thoughts as they occur in order to make the first step to eliminating negativity is at the core of Boisse's advice. Other than positive thinking and a last reminder to heed nutritional and exercise needs, I didn't take much more from the text. Boisse's message is very similar to the self-help enterprise that has grown out of the movie and book The Secret through its insistence on changing thought patterns in order to achieve new realities.

While the message is sound, even if it is being overdone by the media, the problem with Free Mind, Free Body is that it fails to inspire or to create concrete actionable steps for improvement. Boisse notes from the beginning that he will not use specific examples of technique implementation in the book to avoid limiting the reader's own perspective. It might have been better if he had given examples, which would allow the reader to fully absorb the more abstract concepts. As it stands, nothing in the book really grabbed my attention, and much of it seemed repetitive. The author's use of "hmmm..." to transition from one idea to another throughout the book was unnecessary and a bit irksome after the third or fourth time.
