Can someone tell me about the process involved with wishlist relays? I wasn't aware I had to report in to someone when I mailed out a book.
PS. Also just realised I made a mistake, I hadn't posted two days ago, but it was recently...
I've updated the database on Notes on a Scandal for you - thanks for the info.
The process for wishlist relays should be that the sender comes back to the thread and provides the details and link for the book chosen - same with "choice" relays like the ones where you choose 3 books you'd like and the person decides on one to read and send you.
Again, we rely a great deal on our members to get this kind of info into the database. The gal who maintains the relay portion of the database can't keep going back again and again checking for names of books, so if the name isn't there when she's adding to the database, she will put "book of choice" or something like that - or the book name without the link if it hasn't been provided. On occasion, when someone has time, they will go back in and try to update those entries, but we really need our members help with that.
I know that this has been mentioned within various relay threads, but it's been a difficult thing to have stand out as people tend to just be looking at the most recent offer in the relay thread and not reading back through. I did, however, notice now that this is not mentioned in the posted instructions for relays - so I've just added it there now. I will try over the coming days to make this more visible for the relays in some fashion.
You don't have to report in to someone when you mail a book - what we do ask is that you make a JE on the book to say it's been mailed - as we DO regularly go through the database and follow the links to Bookcrossing to look at the status - we update Mailed and Received accordingly. However, if we don't have the book link - we can't do that - and it's very time consuming to hunt down links when they aren't provided. Same issue with a book that has been substituted - in that case, you do need to let one of the moderators know so we can update the database with the substitution info - OR you can register with zoho and maintain your own book info - as many members do. You can find more info on that under Site News and Announcements as well.
