I live in Las Vegas now, so if anyone is planning a trip here, let me know. I'd love to meet up with you!
Oh please tell us why you're now living in Las Vegas? I've been there several times for conferences and my husband's brother and his family live there. It's not my favorite city to visit, but that may be because I never do the "tourist" thing.
wow surprise to hear of your move. Fill us in on the details.

Cirque du Soleil... If you are interested, she's not on BookObsessed, but mdm139 was a member of the BC in DC group that hosted the 2011 Bookcrossing Convention. She recently moved to Vegas and is looking for some fellow BCer's to meet with and maybe start a local meetup group. Send Melanie a PM and mention that Ixion sent you!

We've already gotten together several times actually. We live less than 5 minutes from each other!Ixion wrote:If you are interested, she's not on BookObsessed, but mdm139 was a member of the BC in DC group that hosted the 2011 Bookcrossing Convention. Why Vegas? Husband has been looking to move up with his company for some time now (about a year now) and that would mean moving to a new city. So we've been keeping an eye on all of the job openings (for the promotion) when they get posted. In April we went to Tucson for a visit as he thought maybe a slight career path change (with the same company) would be a good idea to fast track everything. It was the slow way to do it, so we decided against that (even though we liked Tucson) but when we were down there the upper management was pushing the Las Vegas opening. So we went down in May for his interview (they flew us all out) and were offered the job. Since we owed more on our house than we could sell it for, we came up with a revised move package that would help us out more than the standard one and put our house on the market. We moved down last month when our house was days from closing.
It has been interesting being down here so far, as it seems like so much has already gone wrong. When Chris was an hour from Vegas with the moving truck, he got a call from our realtor saying that our house deal fell through due to their financing (a few days before close). We got our gas (heat) turned on in our brand new rental home and took showers (normal thing to do) and our shower water backed up and flooded the downstairs bathroom (came out the toilet). We were without water for 48 hours and had to stay in a hotel. Dishwasher didn't work the first time we tried to use it and that took a week to get a repairman out. Water had issues again if we did more than 1 shower/load of laundry/load of dishes a day. Took 4 days this time to get it fixed. Dryer is pathetic- takes hours to get a load of laundry done. Anyhow, the house is nice, the area is nice and I am just a few minutes from mdm139 and her kids. Oh, and we have a new buyer for our house in Spokane.
We have found some amazing food so far (especially some of the buffets) and have not had a chance to check out any shows as Chris isn't in Vegas yet. His old boss is doing a bit of a power struggle it seems and has had him work out in Seattle/Portland for over a month now. He got 1 1/2 weeks to load/drive/unload the moving truck and is home for a week for Christmas. He leaves tomorrow and we are hoping that he'll be home for good sometime in January and can start the new job. The plan is to be here for 2-4 years and then move again for the next promotion.

There are 7 different Cirque shows here! Looking forward to being able to get to see some, espcially if I can get a local discount.azuki wrote:wow surprise to hear of your move. Fill us in on the details.![]()

So happy to hear that! She was leaving such an active group behind and wasn't sure if there were any meetups in the area.thegoaliegirl wrote:We've already gotten together several times actually.
