That reminds me of the Porcupine Mountains where I went hiking as a teenager, and am making tentative plans to go with my cousin in August before I leave the country.

I looked at your picture, hobbit, and thought "All that's missing is a couple walking hand in hand".

Reminds me of Adam's family cottage on Six Mile Lake, where we will be this weekend to celebrate Victoria Day. The cottage pictured above isn't Adam's, but one that is for sale on the same lake. I know I *should* like it there, but I am an extremely hydrophobic city girl... I always end up in our room, homesick and crying. I want to like it, because it's very pretty...I guess I do like it in a way, but I don't like staying there and its too far away to go and NOT stay.... so like I said, I always end up in our room, homesick and crying. That's one reason why this will be the first time I will have been there in 4 years or so. Honestly, the major convincing factors are that I get to bookcross in a few different towns, take photos for a project I'm working on, and possibly buy a new ring/postcards...

What a sad situation, JessE! I hope you survived the visit ok this time.

Your picture makes me think of Finnish lakeside outings, and the required food:

I think this needs no comment:*

(ETA: *well, maybe since this is an international board I should say that this is a typical barbecue dessert, called a "smore" [some more])

I've always wondered what smores were! Looks good. Reminds me of toasting marshmallows at a bonfire.

Here in Finland the most common time to have a bonfire like that is on MidSummer Eve, the shortest night of the year. Depending on where you are in Finland, the sun may not set at all. In the south, where I am, the sun does dip below the horizon, but it never gets really dark.

Whenever I hear or see the word Midsummer I think of Shakespeare's play and fairies.
